HOW THE FUEL SYSTEM WORKS
A fuel system helps deliver fuel from the tank to the engine. It consists of a fuel pump, fuel lines, a fuel-pressure regulator, fuel filters and fuel injectors.
In your vehicle, fuel starts in the gas tank. When you fill up at the gas station, it obviously goes to the gas tank. The gas then travels from the tank to fuel pumps to the engine.
By sending the fuel to the engine, the tank sends fuel to the fuel lines. The fuel lines from the tank to the engine from combustion.
The fuel goes through the fuel filter next performing making it to the engine. The filter aids in removing debris from the fuel before it reaches the engine.
However, a dirty fuel filter (much like a dirty air filter) will not be able to do its job properly.
Once the fuel passes the fuel filter, it then reaches the engine, allowing it to create combustion in order to utilize the fuel injectors.
A fuel system problem can be caused by many things, but the most common problem is caused by a clogged fuel filter.
If we think about the fuel filter like an air filter, these filters help remove contaminants from both fuel and air. However, if an air filter is exceptionally dirty, it will not be able to properly do its job. The same can be said for a fuel filter.
Because of that, it is important to follow the owner manual’s instructions of when to change the fuel filter.
